About Us: At the Aki Kaze Dojo we provide training in one of the world's oldest and most effective martial arts, commonly referred to as Kobudo, or classical Japanese martial arts. The training practiced at our dojo focuses on developing the vital foundations of a good martial artist: physical fitness, mental acuity, spiritual toughness, and an understanding of one's abilities. Who is Kobudo Good For? Unlike many martial arts that rely mostly on physical strength and speed, Kobudo focuses equally on the understanding and importance of timing, distance, strategy, as well as physical and mental conditioning. Kobudo can be effectively practiced by the largest man as well as by the smallest woman and is as relevant and effective today as it was centuries ago. Our Art: We train in several ryu-ha (schools) of Kobudo, including several Samurai and Ninjutsu martial traditions. This is not a "sport" art. We do not participate in tournaments or other competitive activities. We train to prepare ourselves for real-world conflicts of all kinds, with the intent of improving ourselves and the world around us. Japanese martial arts are traditionally taught in ryu-ha that are organized by the type of combat they include. The Aki Kaze dojo trains in several different ryu-ha including: Koto Ryu Koppojutsu - Bone breaking/striking techniques Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu - Soft tissue striking techniques Kukishin Ryu Happo bikenjutsu - Striking, throwing, and weapon techniques Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu/Jutaijutsu - Striking and grappling techniques Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu - Grappling techniques Asayama Ichiden Ryu Taijutsu - Restraining and grappling techniques Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu - Stealth, strategy, and combat techniques |
